Book 1 Chapter 7-8

 Book 1 Chapter 7-8

"Four, five, six-seven times they met during the month of June. Winston had dropped his habit of drinking gin at all hours. He seemed to have lost the need for it. He had grown fatter, his varicose ulcer has subsided, leaving only a brown stain on the skin of his ankle, his fits of coughing in the early morning has stopped" (124).

This quote shows how Winston and Julia were smart enough to set up meetings without anybody knowing. It is crazy how they were able to meet so many times in one month since they are being watched 24/7. This gives me hope that since they are this smart, they would be able to start a rebellion of some sort against Big Brother. Another thing that this quote shows is that the Winston is falling in love for Julia. Seeing her so often causes him to not need to drink gin anymore because he loves her, and they are both happy together. We can see that Winston was going through a tough time since he was not being so healthy. However, falling in love was good for him because he started taking care of himself more.

Chapter 2-6

Chapter 2-6

 "WAR IS PEACE
FREEDOM IS SLAVERY
IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH." (pg. 7)

I think this quote represents how In Oceania you are limited to freedom. In Oceania they take away most of your freedom and make it into war to show peace. Peace that is owned by the party. Another thing that this quote represents is that since war is so common in Oceania, the citizens just see it as normal and peaceful.

"'Who controls the past', ran the Party slogan, 'controls the future: who controls the present controls the past.'"(pg. 32)

The party controls basically everything. Everything that happened in the past, they could change. Same with the present and in the future. They have this privilege because they have the power to control anything.

"Orthodoxy means not thinking--not needing to think. Orthodoxy is unconsciousness" (pg. 47)

The party wants  to trick you into believing something that is not possibly true. They want to brainwash the people into thinking what the party says is right.
